外商求職新手教學|英文面試必問題:你的最大優點?缺點?【What is your strength & weakness】?

你有沒有過這種經驗:
接到面試通知了,很興奮的同時,卻又開始緊張起來!

因為你知道,面試官很可能會問你這兩個超高頻面試問題 “What’s your biggest strength?” 以及 “What’s your biggest weakness?” 

優點講不好,沒有打到面試官在意的點上,單純自嗨;缺點講不好,變成挖洞給自己跳,反倒造成反效果…。

今天我就想用這篇文章,和你深度的解析分享:大家常犯的錯誤有哪些、面試官背後到底想知道什麼、以及給你幾個全英文的回答邏輯和模板,幫助你能輕鬆的準備這兩個棘手的英文必問面試題!

1.哪些是講「優點 / 優勢 / strengths」的地雷?

我常常在學員的面試講稿中看到 “I’m reliable. / I’m a team player.” 等等的優點講法,這樣的「弱形容詞」並不適合拿來使用,一方面因為不夠有力,二方面是顯得太攏統。

2. 為什麼面試官問這個問題?

面試官問你的優點是什麼,是想知道以下三點:

(1) 你是否有去研究 JD,知道這個職位在找怎樣專長的人?
(2) 你是否對自己有深入的了解?而非表面的認知
(3) 面試官也想幫你!他們也希望能找到合適的人才,所以若你特定的特質或經歷讓他們留下的深刻印象,他們會樂見讓你通過面試,進到下一關

3.講優點就用 JD 找線索

為什麼我們要從 Job Description 中去找線索呢?因為 JD 可是用人主管和人資一起花時間發想出的徵人啟事啊,我之前有說到,面試是一場雙向對話,而你身為求職者的目標,就是讓公司與面試官認為「你是最合適的人選」。因此,即便你的優點優勢有很多,你的回答仍是要針對這個職位的需求,去客製化。更重要的是,一個優點,也許在 A 職位來看,是加分,但對於 B 職位來說,卻是扣分。

舉例來說,很多與會計、稽核、成本分析相關的職位,在 Job description 會強調想找「注重細節 (attention to detail)」的人,有這樣特質的人,在這樣的職位會是加分,但反過來,今天若你想找和創意、創造相關的職位,這樣的特質,就不會是個優點。

4.講優點 (strength) 的兩步驟公式與範例

那麼,該如何從 JD 中找出優勢的線索,並準備一版能獲得面試官青睞的回答呢?
你可以用以下的兩步驟公式:

Step1: 研究 Job Description 
Step2: 給具體有數據佐證的案例

假設你想應徵 Account Manager 一職,Job Description 上面寫到 “Being self-motivated and having a successful track record of making sales into car dealerships.” 就是線索,這表示你可以用 “impact-oriented” ,你是業務成果導向的人,來作為優勢。

開始思考:
– 你是否有銷售業績超標的表現?
– 你有沒有曾被交付一項目標模糊的任務,但仍然成功達標的經驗?
– 你有沒有曾經在時間壓力下,仍展現韌性,完成交辦任務的經驗?

範例一(以客戶經理 Account Manager 舉例):
My greatest strength is that I am always calm and organised when things are hectic.
For example, there was a time when I managed all of the vendors at the fair. There was a mixup with the trucks for the vendors’ supplies, and I had over 20 vendors coming to me with urgent requests. Without losing my grip, I was able to empathise with them, acknowledge their needs, and sort out what is logistically wrong. We ultimately got every vendor their supplies. And another team member remarked at how amazed he was – that I was so calm even as people were yelling at me!

又或者,你想應徵 Content Marketing Manager 一職,Job Description 上面提到 “Strategic storyteller who can translate technical concepts into narratives that resonate with marketers and drive business outcomes” 也是線索,你就可以用 “translate complex ideas into clear and impactful narratives” 來作為優點。

開始思考:
– 你是否有用內容推動商業目標的經驗?
– 你是否有把複雜概念轉譯成客戶能買單的經驗?
– 你發布的內容是否有帶來真實商業成果(提高 adoption rate / engagement 、幫業務提升轉單率等)?

範例二(以內容行銷經理 Content Marketing Manager 舉例):
One of my biggest strengths is translating complex products into messaging that customers immediately understand and connect with.

For example, my previous company launched an AI automation feature, but the initial messaging focused too much on the technical capabilities, and engagement was pretty weak.

I reframed the narrative around a simpler business outcome – helping marketing teams reduce campaign production time from days to hours. After updating the landing page and email messaging, demo conversion rates increased by around 35%.

That experience taught me that effective content marketing isn’t just about explaining features, it’s about making the value feel relevant and actionable for the audience.

5.哪些是講「缺點 / 弱勢 / weakness」的地雷?

這個問題可說是面試的經典陷阱題!你是否跟很多人一樣,在講缺點時,也許沒想太多、也許太誠實,講出「我是個完美主義者」、「我工作太認真」這種缺乏思考、又或者包裝成缺點,其實是優點的回答?

6.為什麼面試官問這個問題?

面試官想藉由這個問題,觀察你是否有自我覺察力 (Self-awareness)?
你是否知道自己的短板在哪裡,並做出怎樣的行動來補足這個短板?

所以你在回答時,千萬不要給那種並非真實的缺點的回答(像是太拼命工作、太完美主義),面試官一聽就覺得被敷衍了,建議你還是要花些時間思考,以下我會分享幾個回答思路和範例,讓你在準備這題時更有方向!

7.講缺點 (weakness) 就從履歷找線索

那麼在回答「你最大的缺點是什麼」時,該如何給出一個有誠意的回答呢?我建議你從你的履歷下手,看看你目前的履歷上,有沒有哪些經歷,跟你現在要投遞的職位對應起來,有不足的地方,那就是你的缺點方向。

8.講缺點 (weakness) 的回答方向與範例

舉例來說,求職者 A 在電商產業有七年的數位行銷經驗,但他要找的新工作,是跳到連鎖速食業,屬於經典的維持職能但轉換產業的案例。那他在回答缺點時就可以說:
“One area I’m actively working on is my limited exposure to the QSR industry. Most of my experience has been in e-commerce, so I’m still building my understanding of in-store customer behavior and offline campaign dynamics. But I’ve already started bridging that gap – I’ve been following industry reports from major QSR brands, and I actually mapped out how a loyalty campaign I ran in e-commerce could be adapted to a drive-thru model. I’m confident that my digital marketing foundation will transfer well, and I’m excited for this opportunity.”

又或者,求職者 B 過往的工作經驗都是在至少千人的大公司,較熟悉有固定流程、系統的工作模式。那麼當他要往新創公司找機會,他就可以說:
“Most of my career has been in large, structured organizations. So stepping into a startup environment, where things move fast, is pretty new territory for me. But what I’ve realized is that a lot of what I’ve built in those environments – the ability to align cross-functional teams, manage complex projects, and push things through, actually came from navigating ambiguity within big systems. Moreover, I’ve been connecting with people who’ve made the same transition, and I recently took on a side project where I had to wear multiple hats with zero playbooks. I’m not starting from scratch, I’m very excited to apply what I know in a faster, leaner context.

最後一個回答方向是,你可以用「語言能力」或「公眾表達能力」等,跟這個職位所需技能不那麼高度相關的回答。但同樣的,你需要提到自己做了什麼來改進這個缺點,和改進的現況,例如:
“My language ability needs improving. Therefore, I signed up for a weekly 1 on 1 English course after graduation. It’s been going on for three months and I can definitely see my improvements in listening and speaking. I’d like to keep improving in the future.”

以上三個回答方向的共同點,都是有給到「你做了什麼來補足這個缺點」,因為有具體的解決方案,面試官才會買單。同時,也因為你是從已經通過篩選的履歷中挑選缺點,因此,這也表示這些缺點並非致命的,講出來也不會真的影響面試通過率。

9.總結:英文不好,如何從 0 開始準備英文面試?
